Job Summary/Basic Function


Bay de Noc Community College is a student-focused, multi-campus institution serving the higher education needs of the south-central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The College is an accredited institution committed to continuous quality improvement. Bay College takes pride in providing a quality education to transfer and occupational students at two campuses, online, and at other course delivery sites.

The Social Work instructor is responsible for teaching Social Work courses and other Social and Behavioral Sciences courses as appropriate and needed (Sociology, Psychology, etc.) and for coordinating Social Work transfer programs. This is a full-time, tenure track position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • Minimum two years post-MSW practice experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success
  • Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy
  • Ability to provide inclusive and accessible teaching and learning approaches for diverse student populations
  • Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communications
  • Demonstrated literacy in information technology and computer use

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program or Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work
  • Five years of relevant clinical or professional experience
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience teaching online
  • Experience teaching in the Blackboard Learning Management System
  • Online teaching certification

Instruct Social Work courses at Bay College, and additional Social and Behavioral Science Courses as appropriate and needed

Facilitate student learning through the following activities:
  • Develop course syllabi that share with students the expectations, standards, policies, and learning outcomes and objectives of the course.
  • Actively engage with student retention and success.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of assessments of course, program, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Use evidence-based pedagogical practices focused on student learning.
  • Provide regular and substantive interaction and feedback to facilitate student belonging, engagement, and learning.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to diverse student populations and their learning needs, including disability accommodations.
  • Develop and use supplementary learning materials, resources, and technology.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

Develop Social Work curriculum to align with transfer institutions, student needs, and community needs.

Collaborate with administration other faculty within and across divisions to determine scheduling of course offerings to best meet current student needs.

Stay abreast of developments in the fields of social work and teaching by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development opportunities.

Collaborate with other teaching faculty, staff, and administration to ensure that all students receive instruction that promotes learning and growth.

Actively participate in division and college activities, including, but not limited to, professional development opportunities, student events, student organizations, etc.

Represent Bay College and higher education through advocacy and service in the communities in which you participate.

Establish working relationships with transfer institutions and community partners.
