Job Description

Our client, a leading electrical contracting firm with a history of delivering complex and innovative electrical systems across various industries, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join their team.

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in preparing accurate and competitive bids for electrical construction projects. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you will be responsible for analyzing project specifications, coordinating with subcontractors and vendors, and ensuring that all estimates align with company standards and client requirements.

Focus:

  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and thoroughly understand the project scope and requirements.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather necessary information for accurate estimating.
  • Review and analyze project bid documents to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing for outsourced work, ensuring completeness and compliance with project specifications.
  • Utilize on-screen takeoff software to complete detailed quantity takeoffs and meet project deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit change order estimates for ongoing projects as required.
  • Collaborate with the estimating team and management to finalize bids and review proposals prior to submission.
  • Evaluate and compare subcontractor and vendor bids, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and specifications.
  • Develop value engineering options and alternatives that align with the client’s objectives.
  • Assist the project management team with the transition from estimating to project execution, providing support and clarification on estimate details.
  • Draft proposal letters that clearly outline the scope of work, inclusions, exclusions, and other pertinent details.
  • Maintain adherence to proposal deadlines and ensure timely submission of all required documentation.
  • Adapt to varying levels of project information and provide accurate estimates based on available data.
  • Follow up on submitted bids and proposals, reporting feedback and outcomes to management.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards, reporting any deviations to the Chief Estimator.

Skill Set:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in commercial construction and conceptual estimating.
  • Proven experience in pre-construction and conceptual estimating for large electrical projects, valued at $25 million or more.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and computerized estimating tools, with experience in on-screen takeoff software.
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as Accubid or similar; experience with McCormick is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
