Description JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for all domestic and international transportation, servicing customer and internal needs. This ideal candidate must have a pro-active approach regarding the cost management of executing transportation service for air freight, LTL, UPS, USPS, ocean containers, and other modes as necessary.
The candidate must be able to multi-task and be on top of servicing the business and ensuring transactional moves are completed in a timely manner. Candidates should also have a team working style and a demonstrated ability to drive tasks in partnership with other teams within the organization.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Handle all ocean and air imports shipments which includes customs clearance (7501), ISF filings, HTS classification, and documentation in accordance with all trade compliance regulations.
- Audits customs broker activity and ensures timely approval of invoices for payment.
- Work with various customs brokers, forwarders, truckers, steamship lines, agents as well for both internal and external customers.
- Actively search and implement new carrier/lanes to improve quality and delivery.
- Identify and implement cost reduction measures to drive operational efficiency.
- Manage suppliers and service providers that support site-specific shipping functions.
- Responsible for negotiating contracts for LTL, UPS and ocean shipments with best possible price and delivery as outcome.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS - 3-5 years of customs broker experience.
- 3+ experience working for and/or with third party logistics companies.
- Experience in moving inbound and outbound freight and leveraging freight consolidation techniques preferred.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, some knowledge of US Import and Export Regulations.
- Exceptional written and oral communication: well-articulated, concise, strong audience awareness, and timely.
- Demonstrated teamwork capabilities: collaborative, supportive, encouraging, taking ownership.
- Direct responsibility for SOP development, operational execution in delivery, managing continuous improvement.
- Must have strong aptitude for dealing with carrier performance metrics and producing KPIs for measuring and delivering industry leading results.
- BS/BA preferred in Supply Chain, Logistics and/or Business Administration; in lieu of a degree must have 7-10 years of auditable hands-on logistics experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Works in an office setting. The ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the office to access files or office equipment, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, handheld devices, copy machine, and computer printer, and operate and monitor various equipment. Must be able to position self to maintain equipment, including under tables and desks.
No heavy lifting is expected; exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, phones, calculators, copiers, and fax machines.
