Job Description
Position Profile Performs basic and intermediate level troubleshooting, diagnostics, preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy trailers and trucks while under the supervision of a more experienced mechanic.
Essential Duties Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures
Performs electrical troubleshooting
Performs computer diagnostics
Performs part diagnostics, repair and replacement
Performs engine diagnostics
Performs emissions troubleshooting and repair
Performs brake system diagnostics and repair
Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent
One to two years heavy trailer, truck equipment repair and maintenance experience
Technical or trade school training in the field of diesel mechanics desirable
Valid AK driver's license
Must own a basic tool kit to perform the job
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Competent level performance of M1 job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities
Basic knowledge of electrical troubleshooting
Basic knowledge of computer diagnostics
Basic knowledge of engine diagnostics
Basic knowledge of emissions troubleshooting and repair
Basic repair manual understanding
Intermediate level skills using the IWS program
Intermediate level skills diagnosing and repairing brake systems
Intermediate level skills of parts repair and replacement
Basic skills using PeopleNet Software

Working Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. In addition to using computerized diagnostic equipment, mechanics use a variety of power and machine tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, grinding machines, and welding equipment. Hand tools, including pliers, socket and ratchets, and screwdrivers, are also commonly used. The employee is often exposed to a variety of extreme weather and temperature conditions and fluctuations, such as cold, heat, snow, wind, rain, etc.
