This full-time faculty position teaches courses for the School of Divinity in the areas of Theology, Ethics, and Womanist
Studies. The successful candidate will teach the core curricular courses for Theology and Ethics that engage with
varied disciplines, alongside courses in conversation with a historical and contemporary lens that give centered and
critical attention to Black Women's role in religion, scholarship, community formation, and culture. The successful
candidate will also serve on Divinity School and university related committees.
Essential Job Functions: - Through a demonstrated commitment to the University's mission and goals, effectively teaches graduate level students in theology, ethics, and women's studies.
•Actively engages in planning, developing and improving curriculum offerings.
•Write and research, and engage in scholarship in the area of theology, ethics, and women's studies.
•Directs instructional activities that encourage students to improve critical thinking and problem-solving
skills, to increase motivation, to enhance a positive self-image, and to clarify their values.
•Teach and conduct research in the area of theology, ethics, and women's studies.
•Assist with the Field education program of the Divinity school.
•Teaches the course in accordance with the course syllabus.
•Informs students of the course objectives and requirements, explains the grading system and attendance
policy, discusses academic integrity, and provides a bibliography of suggested readings.
•As applicable to the graduate program, ensures that coursework:
o Requires students to analyze, explore, question, reconsider, and synthesize old and new
knowledge and skills.
o Relates to currently accepted practices within the discipline.
o Requires students to engage in research and to confront the diversity of views in the field of
study.
•Effectively advises students in applicable academic subject area(s).
•Will hold regular office hours, coordinate regular prayer services and provide spiritual direction and
inspiration for the Shaw University campus.
•Assist in the recruitment of students for the Master of Divinity and Master of Christian Education
programs.
•All other related duties as assigned. - Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience: - PhD in Theology or Ethics
•Specialization in Womanist Studies
•Demonstrated scholarly productivity and research in the field of study.
•Demonstrated successful teaching at the graduate level.
•Knowledge and experience in using instructional technology. - Candidates with teaching experience and expertise in an additional area (i.e., Eco-Womanism, Creation
Care, or Green Church) is highly desired.

to deadlines, priorities, and changing circumstances; demonstrated professional work ethic and positive,
problem-solving attitude. Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in English.
Physical Demands: Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying.
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
