Job Summary This position is a member of the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity (ODEO) at DEED. The ODEO team contributes to DEED's culture work and ensures operational excellence by enforcing Equal Opportunity and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) for DEED employees and customers.
This position implements the agency's Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Title I (Employment) program, manages reasonable accommodation requests and processes, administers the Connect 700 program, and conducts site reviews to ensure DEED's CareerForce locations meet physical accessibility requirements.
Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing objective, impartial, and precise legal and policy advice to all levels of the organization to ensure standardized compliance with agency policy and requirements
- Providing trainings for supervisors, managers, and Human Resources professionals regarding ADA and the Connect 700 program
- Influencing the agency's DEIA programming to maintain a focus on disability inclusion and educating partners statewide about equal access to ensure effective customer service delivery for all Minnesotans
- Participating in meetings where state labor negotiation proposals are discussed and evaluated
This position will have access to confidential, private data and medical records and will be responsible for the proper storage and retention of this data.
This position requires local travel up to five (5) times per month and statewide/overnight travel up to four (4) times per year.
This position is telework eligible and is occasionally required to be on-site at the office. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment and may telework from anywhere in Minnesota or a neighboring state. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position. Two (2) years of experience administering Title I (Employment) of the ADA
Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:
- Experience interpreting and applying the ADA and other related laws (e.g., Family and Medical Leave Act, Worker's Compensation) and policies to accommodation requests from applicants and employees
- Experience researching and analyzing information sufficient to make decisions and/or recommendations determining whether an accommodation is reasonable or an undue hardship
- Experience advising management and/or other professionals regarding the ADA
- Experience developing and delivering training and preparing educational materials related to disability inclusion
- Ability to conduct responsibilities in alignment with agency values of equity and inclusion to ensure deliverables are culturally responsive to DEED employees and customers across the state
- Incumbent must maintain valid driver's license and insurance OR have other reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications - Experience implementing ADA Title I in a public sector environment
- Experience serving members of the disability community
- Experience applying Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 to evaluate needs and compliance in an employment environment
- Knowledge of Minnesota Management & Budget's (MMB) Connect 700 program
- Knowledge of the Human Resources system, laws, rules, collective bargaining agreements, and policies and practices
- Knowledge of Minnesota Building Code and state and federal Accessibility Guidelines, (including electronic areas) and all other relevant state and federal laws, regulations and procedures including ADA Titles II and III
